Mary
Mary is the biblical representation of the divine feminine archetype. 🌹
The Goddess 'Mary' has been depicted throughout history in three distinct aspects-- Virgin Mary, Mother Mary and Mary Magdalene--each representing different feminine archetypes.
The 'Virgin' represents the innocent maiden, 'Magdalene' represents the Prostitute, and 'Mother,' of course, represents the mother archetype.
There is a lot to unpack within the history of how these broken aspects of Mary came to be, far too much to cover in this short paragraph, but the roots stem from the rise of a patriarchal church and society.
The different depictions of Mary represent the energy of unconditional love and forgiveness, sacred sexuality, compassionate witnessing, nurturing, and devotional service. She reminds us that having our emotions seen, heard and accepted is not only a human need, but every human's birthright.
By connecting with all three aspects of Mary simultaneously, we reclaim the wholeness of what it means to be feminine. She reminds us that each archetype can exist within us, rather than having to choose a "singular feminine expression." When we embrace the many faces of Mary, we heal how the collective perceives the Divine Feminine and give ourselves permission to embody the many facets of feminine energy.
